“Meet Kris Aguilar” - CanvasRebel Magazine Interview

JULY 2022

Interview Excerpt

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

There is this stereotype of the starving artist, and I think I know why it is true.

The way I see it is that too many people pursuing art act like moody artists rather than entrepreneurs. They justify not taking the business side of things seriously because “they are too busy” which is exactly why they might be starving or are getting by in a rocky manner.

Building Rapport with Models with Kris Aguilar

AUGUST 2021

Episode Description

Kris Aguilar is an editorial portrait photographer, a podcast host of the KDigitals podcast out in sunny San Diego, California

We’re talking about how to build rapport with your models, make them feel comfortable, and to build that connection that leads to a great collaboration.

When reaching out to models about a photoshoot, have a plan in mind. Ideal wardrobe, a location or two, and what style you are looking for so they can set expectations and also work toward your goal for the shoot.

Having Music at a photoshoot will allow for them to focus on something and not be in their head about how awkward they may feel being in front of the camera.

Don’t be afraid to take breaks. Not all the time together needs to be with your camera up to your eye. You can build that relationship with them and make connections which will allow you to make better connections once your camera is back up.

Show up and have fun together. Obviously have a plan, but be flexible and experiment so you don’t get too stick and rigid for the model.”

Simply Creative with KDigitals - Simply Being Podcast

Episode Description

“It's very clear that the boundaries of photography and modeling have broadened so I wanted to get a bit of an inside scoop on how a lifestyle photographer perceives this change. I brought up topics such as choosing the right photographer/model for your vibe, sticking to your intuition about certain humans, staying true to your intentions, only fans, insecurities, etc. If you're wondering what to be aware of when entering this industry and want to listen to an honest conversation about it, have a listen(:”

SD Voyager Interview - Kris Aguilar

JULY 2021

Interview Excerpt

Kris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I first started using a DSLR camera back in maybe 2013/2014 when I was visiting San Luis Obispo. I had actually just borrowed my buddy’s camera to take nice photos while I was there. I was mainly taking photos of the town and nature around SLO and loved it.

When I got back to SoCal, I immediately bought my own camera and fell in love with photography. I’d go for walks and just take pictures of everything around me. As time would go on, I’d fall in and out of photography, with school and work taking up most of my time. I’d get a few paid gigs here and there but nothing crazy. No matter how much I’d get away from photography, though, I would always gravitate back to it, even finding ways to get involved with creative projects at work. In 2021 I finally accepted that I loved creating and decided to pursue it as a career during this chapter of my life.”
